The celebration of the 2024 Indigenous Peoples Month and the 27th commemoration of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act of 1997 with the theme, “Mga Katutubo at Katutubong Dunong: Pahalagahan, Pangalagaan at Parangalan” or “Valuing, Nurturing, and Honoring Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Knowledge,”. The month-long celebration highlights key factors that distinguish ICCs/IPs, including their roles as guardians of our nation's land and seas, their leadership in nation-building, their contributions to agriculture and food security, and their culture and customs and traditions woven into their ancestral domains and natural environment.

The NCIP aims to shed light on the daily lives of ICCs/IPs and their Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Practices (IKSP), celebrate their rich cultural heritage and traditions, advocate for their rights, and educate and build solidarity among stakeholders and ICCs/IPs nationwide through a variety of activities that are carried out in collaboration with national government agencies and stakeholders.

The NCIP is the primary government agency in charge of creating and carrying out plans, policies, and programs that encourage and protect the rights and welfare of Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) and acknowledge their rights as stated in the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act of 1997. The NCIP works to increase national understanding and recognition of ICCs/IPs.
